Virginia State Police Takes Delivery of Six (6) Bomb/EOD Trucks
High Point, NC – The Virginia State Police began receiving six (6) custom mobile bomb response vehicles earlier this week. The units, manufactured by Matthews Specialty Vehicles in North Carolina, are built on a Freightliner M2 truck chassis with their heavy-duty, purpose built all-aluminum body. Designed to carry the Remotec Mark 5A-1 robot, the vehicle has a custom heavy duty spring assisted ramp, on-board air compressor system, exterior wireless controller platform with input connection panel, recessed controller workstation wired to 32” LCD, X-Ray machine pre-wiring, walk-away brackets for SCBA air packs and separate storage for spare SCBA tanks. There are two additional jump seats, permanently mounted day box storage and all cabinetry has been custom designed to store the specialized equipment of the Virginia State Police’s bomb teams.
Matthews was selected to build our new bomb trucks due to the quality of construction, the attention to detail and the customer support offered by their staff. We were previous customers of the company and we are still very pleased with our initial purchase of their vehicle”, said Lt. Verlan Hall. “Everyone at Matthews takes an interest in the construction of a vehicle so that the finished product is the best it can be. “Good enough” is not part of their philosophy.”
